Tournament Info
The Mex Volleyball tournament is a weighted blind draw, beach doubles volleyball tournament with both Men’s and Women’s divisions. Pool play takes place on Friday OR Saturday and single elimination playoffs are on Sunday.

Weighted Blind Draw
Players do not register with a partner. Instead, they rate their ability according to a helpful guide provided during registration. Proprietal software randomly assigns partners with the goal of leveling the playing field. Two ranked players should never be paired together. We also try to ensure the disparity between players’ abilities is not too wide (e.g. a triple A would not be paired with a novice.) Please keep in mind, there are hundreds of entries. Regretfully, almost all partner requests will be rejected. The only exceptions being father/son or mother/daughter, unless such pairings have already resulted in a 1st or 2nd place finish.
Pool Play
Each pool consists of four, five or six teams. Each team competes in round-robin play (you will play every team in your pool.) Pool play takes place on Friday OR Saturday, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the playoffs on Sunday. The men’s and women’s courts are intermingled for both pool play and playoffs.
Playoffs
On Sunday, the advancing teams play in a single elimination tournament. Typically, to play in the finals, a team would have to win seven or eight straight games in the men’s division, and approximately six games in the women’s. Big crowds gather for the exciting and competitive finals, sometimes ending just as the sun sets over the Pacific.
Party Time!
Mex Volleyball is famous (or some would say infamous) for its festive atmosphere both on and off the courts. The expansive beach provides a perfect party environment with music all day long and reasonably priced beer and taco stands stationed throughout. Please make sure you stay within walking distance or have a designated driver.
Cheating
The Mex Volleyball committee has a zero tolerance policy for cheating. Examples of cheating include: entering under someone else’s name, subbing in without committee approval, not disclosing a ranking, or lying about your abilities on your application. Such actions may result in serious consequences such as a permanent ban. This is a fun and honest tournament for players of all abilities where ANY entrant can win.
In Conclusion…
Mex Volleyball provides an escape from reality with a weekend of friends, fun, and volleyball, on the beautiful beaches of Mexico.
